| | Roger Baker Photography | Roger was born in 1945, in Mount Vernon, New York to an artist mother and musician father. By the end of high school he was performing professionally and adept at trumpet, saxophone, and piano. He went on to study at Berklee School of Music in Boston, graduating in 1969 with a degree in Arranging and Composition. He owned at operated his own recording studio in Watertown, Mass. until 1990, all the while performing with his wife, vocalist Rita Newport, and backing national acts such as Patty LaBelle, The Coasters, Bobby Rydel, and Johnny Nash. In 1990, he moved his recording studio and life to Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1994, after a lifetime of photographing, he built his own darkroom and took up photography “seriously.” Almost immediately he began winning competitions and getting work as a portrait and glamour photographer. Combining a sense of artistic humor garnished from the surrealist movement and his love of music and the human form, he carved out a photographic niche with his images combing nudes and musical instruments, whimsical conceptual nudes, and multiple image printing. He was a Contributing Photographer for “Libido” Magazine with five covers to his credit and frequent contributor to “Bad Attitude” Magazine with six covers to his credit. All work was done “organically” in the darkroom until recently. With the sophistication of digital imagery, Roger has switched to the digital darkroom and now creates images through the Photoshop software. Roger has his own professional home studio equipped with Novatron lighting. His work is currently on exhibit at “Wild About Music” in Austin, Texas, “Aperture Gallery” in Denver, “Musee Erotique” in Paris, France, and “Passions Gallery” in Provincetown, Massachusetts. | | | | | |
