Susan Connelly's impressionistic paintings are filled with mood and color. Her medium is acrylic, applied to canvas, and reflects her love and respect for her surroundings. She draws inspiration from nature; human beings engaged in everyday activities and most recently the interiors of homes, restaurants and galleries. In these interiors she looks for the effect of light striking objects in the rooms.
Susan grew up in Laguna Beach, CA, a thriving art community where she studied art with local art instructors and at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA. She moved to Santa Fe, NM in the early seventies. Susan put her art career on "hold", opened a boutique clothing store and sold the first "mini dresses" in Santa Fe. She remained in the clothing business for ten years. A career in buying and restoring homes followed and ultimately led to the real estate profession to market her properties.
Susan and her husband, attorney Pete Connelly, relocated to Las Cruces in the early nineties and she was able to return to her fine art roots; devoting herself full time to the study of art. Her paintings are now in private and corporate collections throughout the United States. She has had numerous solo and group shows and has participated in many juried exhibitions, receiving honors for her work.
Susan continues to live in Las Cruces, NM and paints full time either in her studio or on location. She studied for six years with the late El Paso painter Earline Barnes and has taken workshops with several noted painters, locally and at the Scottsdale Artist School. | Click images for details.
