Margi Lucena

Pastel

"I have always drawn and painted. As a child, I would watch my Dad paint, and, to me, the smell of paint, turpentine, and linseed oil are as comforting as the smell of home cooking. In recent years, I have found the pure color and amazing versatility of pastels have made it my favorite medium.
My paintings are an expression of my own response to what I see and how I feel about the beauty of the natural landscape that surrounds us. The patterns, shadows, light, sounds…all create visual music in my head, and I feel compelled to paint it.
My goal as an artist is to establish a connection between my expression of what is before me, and you, the viewer."

Margi’s work has appeared in many invitational and juried shows in New Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Arizona, earning numerous awards, most recently the Mount Vision Pastel award at the 2006 National Pastel Exhibition in Albuquerque, NM, and the Best New Exhibitor of 2006 at New Mexico Arts and Crafts Fair. Included in private collections across the country, her work has been featured in New Mexico Magazine, Steppin’ Out, and others. You can find Margi most days in her working studio in Socorro, NM.
