Fiber & Oil Painting

Having come to the southwest from Maryland in 1972 just after finishing college I was looking for a new place to live. When we arrived here I was just amazed to see the landscape of this state. I fell in love with Santa Fe and adobe architecture. The warmth and sincerity of the people living here matched the majesty of the mountain ranges and the vast expanses of endless sky, clouds, and horizon lines. From this  has come my inspiration. It was an environment so unlike the east coast – so dramatic that I began to do watercolors and since we had a young family it was the perfect medium.

The watercolors turned into tapestry weavings and eventually when I was older - oils. The weavings take a little longer but the texture and creation of a piece of fiber in the form of a painting with such a sensual nature is so compelling. I also like the craft part of it and the technical aspects.

Working in oils during this stage of my life is fascinating since it is a completely different experience from painting in my youth. It is a more rewarding time and the results are more satisfying than before.

I graduated from the Maryland Institute of Art (MICA) with Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.  Show venues - MICA / Arts Alliance / Fiber Arts Fiesta / New Mexico State Fair / NM Symphony Orchestra / Unitarian Church
